 At Project Nehemiah Hawaiʻi, our mission is to combat human trafficking, exploitation, domestic abuse, and addiction across our islands.

Because of our frontline work with vulnerable individuals and families, we have serious concerns about proposals that expand recreational marijuana, sports betting, and casino gambling in Hawaiʻi.

Our position is based on lived experience — not politics.

We see the impact of addiction.
We see financial exploitation.
We see broken homes.
We see trauma in our youth.

Research and national trends show that expanded gambling and substance normalization can increase addiction rates, financial instability, and vulnerability to exploitation.

As a nonprofit organization dedicated to prevention, restoration, and protection, we cannot ignore the potential long-term social costs of expanding these industries.

This is not about political parties.
This is not about candidates.
This is about community health.

We believe Hawaiʻi’s future should be built on:
